Succulents For Sale in Orlando

It’s no surprise why people love succulents. They can be found in a variety of shapes, colors, and textures, and they don’t need bright, attention-grabbing flowers to catch your eye. The main event of the succulent is the leaves–fleshy, full, and compact.

Succulents vs. Cacti

You’ll often see these two categories talked about together. However, are they the same thing? Can you use these terms interchangeably? The simple answer is no. Cacti are a subset of succulents. That is, all types of cacti are considered succulents, but not all succulents are considered to be cacti. This is because all succulents have thick, fleshy parts that are designed to store water. Cacti have the same part, but they grow external spines and never grow leaves. One easy way to distinguish them is by texture: succulents are generally smooth, soft, or fuzzy while cacti are generally prickly.

Selecting the Right Succulent

When you purchase a succulent, you want to make sure that it has the best chance at survival. Thankfully, there are some easy tips that you can follow to make your succulent buying a little easier.

The first thing that you want to look for is that the soil that the succulent is potted in is dry to the touch. Overwatering can lead to disease and root rot, especially in succulents that need very little watering to survive.

The other thing that you want to be aware of is the leaves on the succulent itself. If the leaves are full and plump, then the succulent has been watered enough. If they are dry or if they look like they are withering, there is a high likelihood that they have not been watered properly.

Caring for Your Succulent

One important thing to note about succulents is that they like dry, arid climates. This means that you are going to keep them in particularly sunny places. If you are keeping them indoors, pick a window that receives a good amount of sunlight. If your succulents are going outdoors, make sure they are not shadowed by anything.

In addition to bright light, succulents are also adapted to little rainfall. This means that you do not have to water them all that often. A rule of thumb to follow is to water them every two to three weeks or when the soil is very dry.
